Five Different Types of Portable Toilets and How to Choose Between Them

If you are planning an event and don't have enough bathrooms at the event site, a natural solution is to rent portable toilets. When it comes to renting portable toilets, it is essential to be aware of your options, as there are various portable toilets that you can use for your event.

Type #1: Standard

First, there is the standard portable toilet that you problem associate with attending a big outdoor event, such as a music festival or fair. These are solidly constructed, almost square-looking units with a toilet that doesn't flush over a large storage area that collects the waste and deodorizes fluid.

There may be hand sanitizer inside the unit, but there is no handwashing station inside the unit. This is the least expensive type of portable unit that you can rent and the most common.

Type #2: Construction

Second, there are construction-style portable toilets. These look a lot like a standard toilet; however, they have wheels on them so that they can be rolled around a building site and even taken in a service elevator and used on a high-rise construction project.

They also come with special hooks on the top so that they can be moved around with a crane. As a standard unit, the toilet isn't flushable, and hand sanitizer is provided by not running water to wash one's hands with.

Type #3: Flushable

If you are looking for something with features that are more like a standard bathroom, you can rent a flushable portable toilet. These units are bigger than the standard size, but they include a flushable toilet and generally have some sort of handwashing station inside. This is great if you are holding a fancier event, where guests will want access to a more normal bathroom situation, with lights, mirrors, and a place to wash their hands.

Flushable toilets come in various sizes, from small single stall units to units with three or four bathrooms included.

Type #4: Trailer Mounted

Another option is a trailer-mounted portable toilet. With this type of toilet, it sits on a trailer, so you don't need to place it on a sturdy flat surface as you do with a standard toilet. Trailer-mounted portable toilets can be equipped like a standard portable toilet or like a flushable one. They come in both configurations.

Type #5: ADA- Compliant

If you are hosting a public event, you will want to ensure that you have some ADA-compliant porta-potties at the event. These units are bigger and allow the room that someone with mobility issues or disabilities would need when using the bathroom. They are big enough to allow for a wheelchair or walker into the unit.

When it comes to renting portable toilets for your event, you need to think about what you need. For most events, a mix of standard and ADA-compliant toilets will take care of your needs. If you are putting on a fancier event, then flushable toilets may be worth the splurge. If you have a unique site set-up, you may need to consider trailer or construction-ready toilets, which have a little more flexibility in how they can be moved and where they can be set up.
